Most of today’s websites earn revenues from advertisements placed on the pages. Although advertisement is a valuable source of income, using advertisement wrongly will only reduce the number of return visitors and – in the long run – will reduce your site’s earnings substantially. So how can we use advertisements to earn revenues properly?
Recent scientific research shows that the use of animated banner is not more effective than static ads. In fact, viewers prefer static text advertisements than animated web banners because they are targeted and considered much more credible. Instead of cluttering your site with tons of distracting banner ads, you should integrate text ads seamlessly into the content.
Seamless integration is indeed important. You may be tempted to place as many ads as possible on your site, but you will only be scaring your visitors away. Limit the number of ads per page and make sure you place them strategically. If you use Google AdSense, for example, you can place the text ads at the bottom of your content; viewers will be highly interested to click on the ads after reading valuable contents, increasing your click rate instantly.
One last tip you should always remember is to never – and I seriously mean NEVER – use popup ads. Some web designers are using JavaScript-based ‘popup’ ads just because they think they are not popup ads (due to the fact that no actual window pops up). Your visitors will consider popup ads annoying and will leave your site in an instant without even reading your content.
